                      Week of January 23rd 

We'll take it....  Costa ended their 2 game losing streak with a 50-40 win over the visiting PV Sea Kings.  The Mustangs survived a 6 point 2nd quarter to post the win.   Costa was led by Justin Strings' 21 points, 6 rebounds along with 13 points from Cole Feaster.  Max Watson missed his first double-double by 2 points while contributing 8 points and 10 rebounds.   Costa heads to West Torrance High on Friday night with redemption from an opening season loss on their minds.  The Mustangs are now 15-6 overall and 2-3 in League play.  

                       Week of January 16th 

Costa's offense got off to a stagnant start scoring just 16 points in the first half but the defense held Peninsula to just 17.  Unfortunately, the Mustangs were outscored 17- 9 in the 3rd quarter.  After scoring 25 points in 3 quarters, the Mustangs starting pushing the tempo and using their superior team speed, ripped off 21 points in the 4th quarter to make it a very close game.  Unfortunately, it was not enough as Costa fell 49-46.   Costa falls to 14-6 overall and 1-3 in Bay League.  More details in "Hoops Week" in left column.  <-----

Costa suffered a tough loss to Leuzinger  on Tuesday night at their gym.  The Mustangs blitzed the ranked and talented Leuzinger team to forge a 34-26 lead at the half.  In the 2nd half, Costa could not hold on to an 11 point 4th quarter lead as Leuzinger sped up the tempo, got key turnovers, multiple shots and drained key 3 pointers to get back in the game.  It was down to the final seconds before it was finally decided 70-66, Leuzinger. When the dust settled, the Mustangs were outscored 27-12 in the 4th quarter.     Details in "Hoops Week" column. 

                     Week of January 9th 

                 All I Can Say Is......WOW!!!

The Costa - Redondo rivary has rarely, if ever produced such a competitive, exciting and thrilling overtime game!!   After a tough battle that seesawed between 3-5 point leads for each team, it came down to the final seconds in overtime to determine the outcome....with mere seconds on the clock and down by 2, Cooper Pugnale took an outlet pass from Justin Strings, dribbled through frantic Redondo defenders and with 9 seconds on the clock...... drained a 3 pointer to give Costa an amazing comeback victory!   Read more details in "Hoops Week"  column of the left bar.

The victory evened the Mustangs league record to 1-1 and 14-4 overall.
